Financials Models in a Crisis

07 september 2020

On initiative of the International Project Finance Association (IPFA), BDO Corporate Finance Belgium and BDO Financial Services UK joined forces in order to host two webinars for the Future Leaders’ Network (FLN) on Financial Models in a Crisis.

Moderated by Nick Joseph, VP Infrastructure at SMBC (and BDO UK alumnus), financial modelling experts Erik Van den Broeck and Michael Van Berkel (BDO in Belgium) launched the first session by navigating through the impacts of the Covid-19 crisis during the negotiation phase. The speakers then described aspects like delays, hedging, increased costs and uncertainty during the design and build phase that are affected by the crisis.

During the second session, London expert David Ward (BDO in the UK) focused on the impact of the crisis on the operational phase of the financial model, and took time to explain the specific consequences of the crisis related to the value of assets.

Each webinar gathered nearly 200 guests from around thirty different countries. Both webinars were ended with very dynamic Q&A sessions, which demonstrated the strong interest of the attendees for the subject.
